Our History

Our business began over 50 years ago...

Based in Yorkshire, our business began in 1972 from a small farm with a dairy herd of 100 cows and 150 acres of land. Our Managing Director, Charles Payne, and his father Bryan, produced 100 litres of milk daily, and distributed to local customers on local milk rounds.

In 1995 when the Milk Marketing Board was de-regulised, Charles decided to move the business forward and begin collecting milk direct from other farms to increase production. Originally, there were 20 farms supplying milk, and 2 tankers used for collecting. Fast forward to 2024 and we now collect from over 100 farms across the North of England, funnelling over 750,000 litres of milk through our processing plant in Boroughbridge on a daily basis.

Acquired in 2005, our 8 acre site is now the Head Office for a nationwide company. All processing, manufacturing and logistical planning happens at our Boroughbridge site, enabling us to distribute to our depots in Birmingham, Peterborough and further afield, for a smooth and reliable delivery service to all of our customers across all sectors.

Our original farm and processing plant is now home to Paynes Food Service, the company's latest expansion. Launched in 2017, we can now offer a full in-house compliment of fresh produce and dairy product, direct to customers within the retail, manufacturing, catering and bulk produce sectors. This allows us to offer a wide product range and full service in-house, making the customer journey seamless, smooth and reliable.

We pride ourselves, from our early days in the 1970's right through to today in the 2020's, on producing the best quality produce delivered with the best service.
